Brighton Japan Festival: Moshi Matsuri

Tokyo Textiles were proud to attend Moshi Matsuri on Saturday 18th June, the opening weekend of the Brighton Japan Festival. Moshi Matsuri is a fantastic open air festival celebrating traditional Japanese food and culture. I had a wonderful day, it was great to meet so many friendly creative people!

The first ever Tokyo Textiles stall!

The stall was packed with beautiful Japanese fabric and lace!

Free lollipops!

Green Tea break!

The festival was beautifully decorated with origami cranes.

Delicious Japanese food was served by stall holders and the festival hosts, Moshi Moshi.

There were lots of wonderful stalls selling everything from Hello Kitty plushies to vintage Kokeshi dolls. My favourite stall had many beautiful vintage Kimonos.

Japanese musicians performed throughout the day. My favourite act by far were pop violinist Masa Futagami and shamisen player/guitarist Daniel-san who played their own versions of theme tunes such as Mario Brothers and Sailor Moon! They also played the beautiful Mononoke Hime theme.

There are so many cool, creative people in Brighton! Everyone we met was really friendly.

After the event I took a stroll through Brighton and admired the amazing AllSaints window display – floor to ceiling vintage sewing machines!

No day trip to Brighton would be complete without fish and chips on the sea front!

We had a great time and we hope everyone else did too! Thanks to everyone who visited our stall, we would love to see what you all make with your Japanese fabric and lace, so please share your photos in our Flickr group or on our Facebook page. Arigatou!

Your stall looks brilliant and very, very cute and like I’d be more than happy to spend lots and lots of money there on all the yummy fabrics and laces. I might also nab a lollipop. :D

And that photo with the four girls in yukatas, I have that same blue yabane & swallow patterned yukata the second girl from the left is wearing. :)

Thanks Eerika! You are always welcome to a lollipop! <3 Ah that yukata is lovely. ^_^ How many do you have? Thanks for helping to convince me to go for it and get the vintage one, it's soooo pretty! I just need to make an obi to go with it.
